HostNowOnline

Hosting sizer · Plan Fit

How much hosting does your site really need?

Plan pages list gigabytes and "unlimited". Your site needs transfer, disk, files, PHP workers and memory, and those numbers grow. HostNowOnline works them out from a few facts about your site, then checks each plan you are considering, limit by limit, today and months ahead.

Load band in month 12 Medium

Estimates from the numbers typed, growing 3% a month. Workers = busiest-minute views that run code × server time × 1.5 headroom. The band is HostNowOnline's own rule of thumb, not a host's. How it is worked out

Three questions a plan page rarely answers

  1. 29.2 GB

How much transfer will a month take?

Visits × pages × page weight, less what browsers cache, plus downloads. The example bakery moves 20.5 GB a month today and 29.2 GB in month 12 at 3% monthly growth.

  2. 1 worker

How many PHP processes at once?

The busiest minute decides it, not the monthly total. Little's law turns busy-minute page views and server time into processes running at the same moment, with 50% headroom.

  3. Month 1

When does a plan run out?

Mail, uploads and backups grow every month. Plan Fit walks month by month and names the first month a limit is passed. In the example that is the Starter plan's disk.

Plan Fit: two plans, side by side

Type the limits printed on each plan. Empty means the plan does not say, and becomes a question to ask the host. These two plans are made up for the example.

Starter (example)

Outgrown in month 1

  • Disk space 10.0 GB 94% today · 228% in month 12 · runs out in month 1 Past limit
  • Monthly transfer says unlimited need 29.2 GB by month 12 Unlimited?
  • Files (inodes) 100,000 files 78% today · 146% in month 12 · runs out in month 4 Past limit

  • Mailboxes 5 mailboxes 60% today · 60% in month 12 Headroom
  • Database size not stated need 210 MB by month 12 Not stated
Ask the host (2)
  1. It says "unlimited": Is there a monthly transfer (bandwidth) limit or a fair-use rule, and what happens when a site goes over it?
  2. Is there a maximum size for one database?

Plus (example)

  2. Is there a maximum size for one database?

Headroom the need stays at or under 70% of the limit · Near ceiling 70-100% · Past limit the need passes the limit by month 12. The bar shows month 12; the dark part is today.

What you tell it

Every box starts with a sensible value for the kind of site (static pages, a CMS such as WordPress, a web app or a shop), so a first answer takes a minute.

Plain about what it is

HostNowOnline does not sell hosting. It names no hosts, holds no prices and has no affiliate links, so it gains nothing from the plan you pick.

Estimates, not guarantees. The numbers come from what you type and the published rules on How it works. Real use varies; a host's own limits and terms decide.

Nothing looked up. It never visits your site or any host. What you type stays in the page unless you save it to your own Site File.
